How to give coloured hair special care and protection
Coloured hair has special needs. If the colour fades and loses brilliance soon, women often believe that is caused by frequent washing, UV rays and chlorinated water. But there is another hidden cause for the loss of that originally rich colour: heat.
Learn here what excessively hot styling does to your hair and how to prevent discolouration and hair damage.
Heat - the unknown enemy
Excessive heat is dangerous to all kinds of hair. But coloured and bleached hair is even more susceptible to heat damage than uncoloured hair. What does that mean for you? Tests conducted by the Braun hair experts in cooperation with the hair and fibre chemistry experts at the German Wool Institute have shown that temperatures up to 200°C inflict only very limited damage on coloured hair. Yet most styling tools operate at temperatures well above 200°C - some get even as hot as 230°C!
Braun's Satin Hair™ Colour styling tools are different. Even at the highest setting, their temperature range stays well within the limit that's right for coloured hair. Plus, their personalized temperature selection makes it easy for you to choose the setting that's right for your hair. Don't choose between great colour and a great style - choose Braun and get both!
Protecting the colour pigments
Tests prove that even when your hair is freshly coloured, the colour fades after only 5 cycles of washing and styling at excessive temperatures above 200°C. That’s because the tiny pigment molecules that cause your gorgeous colour to shine are not designed to withstand very high temperatures. If things get too hot, they start to degrade and lose their colour power. The result: your gorgeous shade fades away much too fast.
With Braun Satin Hair™ Colour styling tools, you can be sure that your styling is gentle on the pigments. Satin Hair™ Colour temperature ranges are adapted to the special needs of coloured hair, letting you enjoy luminous colour for longer.
Protecting the hair structure
Coloured hair is much more susceptible to damaging influences than normal, uncoloured hair. That’s because during colouring, the structure of your hair is changed, so that the pigments can be delivered to the core of each hair strand. Every additional stress and strain on the hair causes further damage – especially heat.
The reason for this is that our hair (like our skin and fingernails) consists mainly of a protein called keratin. If keratin gets too hot, its components get damaged, causing its structure to break down. The result: your hair looks dull and lifeless.
By keeping the temperatures at a lower, yet still effective level and using Colour Saver Technology, Braun Satin Hair™ Colour styling tools protect the fragile structure of your coloured hair, leaving it gorgeously shiny and smooth.
Preventing “bubble hair“
Excessively high temperatures inflicted on your hair by ungentle styling tools cause the residual humidity in your hair shafts to boil. It’s basically just like boiling water in a kettle: the boiling water evaporates, and steam builds up inside the hair shaft. Eventually, the steam will create numerous tiny bubbles near the ends of your hair. The result is the infamous “bubble hair”: hair that is hollowed out, highly damaged, and prone to breakage.
Braun Satin Hair™ Colour styling tools are extra-gentle. They’ve been developed for the special needs of coloured hair to guarantee carefree styling and lasting colour luminosity.
