Sustainable development through our operations
As well as driving product sustainability, Braun is continually reducing the environmental effect of its manufacturing operations around the world. We have already made significant progress. Between 2007 and 2010 we reduced amount of waste by 41%, amount of CO2 emissions by 7%, water usage by 26%, and our overall energy consumption by 12% on a production basis. About 92% of all waste generated in our factories go into recycling, reuse or recovery.
At our Kronberg facility in Germany we have achieved a waste recycling rate of 98.5% by separating all waste streams and working with suppliers to recycle these materials.
At our Walldürn facility we have now identified new opportunities to reduce the heating cost of the building by >80% by recovering process heat energy.
At our Shanghai facility we have identified and realized significant water reductions, and improving process flows.
While we are pleased with our progress, which goes far beyond legal requirements, we want to do even more. So we have committed to an overall environmental footprint reduction of 20% for our manufacturing sites from 2007 to 2012, which we have already exceeded for waste and water until 2010.
