About dos and don'ts using styling appliances
More informations about the right way to create the latest styles without compromising the health of your hair and giving it that beautiful silky smooth shine.
How long can I leave my hair in the straightener?
For best results, straighten your hair strand by strand, moving the satinliner slowly but steadily from the roots to the ends. The appliance should be constantly in motion – we recommend moving on after no more than two seconds in one spot.
What is the right temperature for straightening my hair?
You should principally never use temperatures above 200°C. Independent research has shown that temperatures above 200°C may alter the structure of your hair, causing lasting damage. The right temperature depends on your personal hair type and desired style. For professional styling results, we recommend:
130°C – 160°C for fine, porous hair
160°C – 180°C for normal or coloured, bleached hair
180°C – 200°C for strong, thick or coarse hair.
When working with the maximum temperature setting, you should make sure to treat each strand only once.
Will I get better styling results if I straighten my hair while it’s still damp?
Absolutely not! In fact, you may cause severe damage to your hair if you style or straighten it while it’s still wet or damp. So be sure to always blow-dry your hair prior to straightening.
What do I do if I accidentally curled a wrong strand with the curling tool?
No problem! Just spray the faulty strand with a little water, give it a quick blow-dry, and style it anew – but don’t take a shortcut by trying to style the damp strand, since that may damage your hair.
I’ve heard that too much brushing can actually damage hair?
It’s true that the friction associated with brushing can often damage hair. The answer to this is to reduce the friction and associated damage as much as possible. Braun’s solution lies within the very special design and manufacturing processes of the Satin Hair™ brush with IONTEC’s bristles.
The key is to produce bristles that have a smooth surface and a shape that enables separation of the hair fibres in a gentle way. The bristles of the Satin Hair™ Brush with IONTEC are designed to have a specific shape that helps separate hair fibres gently. They are also attached to the brush in a flexible way so it’s the bristles that give way when the going gets tough and not the hair.
The real difference, however is that the bristles are manufactured with a special technique so they have no burr (a burr usually occurs when producing plastic materials and is a sharp ridge, often on the side of the bristle) and as you can imagine, a sharp ridge is not a good idea when your aim is to be as gentle as possible.
How can I reach longer lasting results?
First, give your hair the best possible styling prep with a blow-dryer, which leaves your hair with just the right moisture level. Then style, curl or straighten away, and you will get salon-league styling results that last - whenever and wherever you want them!
