Can you explain briefly how the device works?

Braun ThermoScan measures the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and surrounding tissues.

How many times can the ThermoScan be used?

Under normal operating conditions the consumer model has a minimum life of 10.000 temperature readings.

Can the Braun ThermoScan be repaired?

There are no user serviceable or replaceable parts on Braun ThermoScan thermometers except the batteries and probe covers or lens filters. All thermometers requiring service should be returned to a Braun Customer Service Center.

What is the acceptable variance for readings of the Braun ThermoScan?

The technical accuracy requirement for the system (ThermoScan thermometer + original Braun lens filter / probe cover) is defined by a ± 0,2 ºC maximum measurement deviation.

How do I know that my Braun ThermoScan is working well?

The thermometer is initially calibrated at the time of manufacture. If this thermometer is used according to the use instructions, periodic re-calibration is not required. If at any time you question the accuracy of measurement, please contact Braun.
Has Braun ThermoScan been tested and is it an approved product?

Yes, the reliability of Braun ThermoScan thermometers has been proven in more than 30 independent clinical studies involving a total of 17 hospitals and more than 4,600 patients. Based on the positive results from these studies, Braun has obtained approval to sell ThermoScan in 80 countries. ThermoScan thermometers also comply with technical standards such as ASTM and carry the CE approval mark for medical devices.

Is the Braun ThermoScan safe for all age groups?

Yes, it is. The probe has been developed so as to exclude damage of the eardrum, no matter what age the patient has. Even though the probe cannot be fit into the ear canal of a newborn, clinical studies have confirmed that accurate temperature readings can be carried out correctly in this age group when applying ThermoScan very carefully.

Are there any situations in which the Braun ThermoScan should not be used?

You should not use the Braun ThermoScan if the person has an outer ear infection (otitis externa), since this could be uncomfortable for the person. Generally, if the probe of the thermometer can be inserted fully into the ear canal, the thermometer can be used. Never take a temperature in an ear that contains blood or any drainage. Use the opposite ear if medication has been placed in the infected ear canal.
