No more "Bad Hair Days"
They are the bane of our lives: the dreaded bad hair days! But don’t despair – with our fast & easy emergency tips, those days will be gone forever.
Dull, dry hair
Quick fix: You can hide those dried ends by pulling your hair in a bun. Or you spray a fine mixture of water and conditioner over your hair where needed.
30-minute remedy: Massage some olive oil into your hair before washing. Use a mild shampoo and concentrate on the roots – the lather will run down the lengths of your hair, so you don’t have to work it in. Rinse with cold water to get some extra shine by sealing the cuticle.
Long-term cure: Combat dryness by treating your hair to a deep conditioner or hot-oil treatment once a week. Use products containing moisturising ingredients such as panthenol or ceramides. And don’t wash your hair too often – strange as it may sound, the water dries it out.
Frizzy hair
Quick fix: Curl unruly, frizzy hair ends with a curler such as Braun smoothstyler. To smooth down the frizz, use special anti-frizz products on the tips. Or simply pin up the hair at your crown to hide the frizz.
30-minute remedy: Though frizzy hair usually goes crazy in humid weather, it actually lacks water. Anti-frizz conditioners lock the moisture in the hair, while protecting it against humidity.
Long-term cure: To avoid drying out your hair, do not shampoo every day and be sure to keep your hair well-conditioned. Avoid grease, gels and other products that may lead to build-up, since that would require more washing than your hair needs.
Flat, weighed-down hair
Quick fix: If your hair is flat-out tired and weighed down try using your hair curler, applying some extra body to the roots or try giving it a rest and cover it up with a bandanna (looks great in combination with a wide-rimmed straw hat in the summer or a funky trilby all year round!).
30-minute remedy: Too many styling- and conditioning products may weigh down your hair, so use a clarifying shampoo to free your hair from build-up. Don’t use normal conditioner for fine hair – rather use a hair mask and leave it in for a very short time.
Long-term cure: For extremely fine hair, try using a hair mask before shampooing. Avoid products containing silicone, as they can weigh down your hair. To boost your root volume you may also consider getting highlights. The colour will add some extra body and structure.
Oily hair
Quick fix: Fashion with its thumbs-up on head accessories is on your side – wear a stylish headband to cover up oily-looking roots. You can also use talcum powder to absorb excess oil. But don’t apply too much and make sure you rub it in well to avoid flakiness.
30-minute remedy: Use a very mild shampoo as aggressive shampoos may stimulate the sebaceous glands making it even more oily. Wash your hair with tepid water, finishing off with a cold-water rinse. For very oily hair, try shampooing while the hair is still dry, rinse after 2-3 minutes, then proceed as usual.
Long-term cure: Frequent washing may be part of the problem rather than the solution. Try washing your hair only every other day and cover up oily roots on the in-between days. Oily-looking partings and roots may also be caused by product build-up; using a clarifying shampoo once a week will help you get rid of it.
